How to hide TV cables on gyprock and plasterboard walls

Many modern Perth homes feature internal plasterboard walls with a timber or steel frame. This allows for a very clean finish, as there is a gap inside the wall to allow for the TV cables to be hidden.

When mounting your TV on gyprock and plasterboard walls, we install plates behind the TV and the base of the wall near the power outlet and run the cables inside the wall. Your HDMI, optical, and antenna cables are routed through the internal wall cavity. This creates a floating TV look with no visible wires.

How to hide TV cables on brick walls

Many Perth homes feature internal single-brick walls and external double-brick walls. Both require different cable management when wall-mounting a TV.

External double brick walls with cavity

Many Perth residences have external-facing double-brick walls with a 50 mm cavity or gap between the bricks. When hanging a TV on a double-brick wall, we can usually feed cables through this gap, enabling them to be completely hidden from view. Some drilling will be required to install plates behind the TV and at the base of the wall near the power outlet so as to run the cables inside it.

New build single brick walls, with wall chasing.

Oftentimes, recently built brick homes have wall chasing (narrow channels inside the brick or concrete) installed during construction.

This excellent feature allows TV cables to be run through conduit and hidden within a single brick wall. No cables are visible when viewing your wall-mounted TV

Internal single brick walls, no cavity.

As there is no space within the wall to hide cables, we run them inside an AV cable trunking, like an enclosed cover below the TV. This can be closely colour-matched and is paintable PVC for a perfect finish. The result is a neat and tidy, cost-effective solution.

Which TV cabling is the safest option?

If you have kids or pets, having exposed cables is definitely not something you want to risk. Wall mounting your TV is only half of the job done if you don’t also get a professional to complete the cabling for you.
All of our TV cabling options will leave the TV area safe and tidy, but it does depend on the wall that your TV is being mounted on. For example, if you are installing your wall-mounted TV on an internal wall, we won’t be able to hide the cables in the wall itself. We can still use trunking to take the cables away from little fingers and paws.
With ProTV, your TV installation and cabling will always look tidy and professional.

I’m not sure which wall mount cabling option I need?

Not to worry, we will be able to help you figure out the right option with just a quick phone call. We will need to know a bit more about how you want to mount your TV, which wall in the home you are using and a few other things about your home. Why isn’t wall cabling included in my TV wall mounting service?

Our TV Mounting Service covers the installation (or ‘mounting’) of your TV to the wall, along with a high-quality TV bracket. Cabling has to be calculated separately, as every home, wall, and job is different. If you are unsure which wall type you have or which cabling you need, just get in touch and we will help you figure it out.

As a guide, the total price would be the mounting and bracket cost shown on our TV installations page, plus one of the following options:

• Gyprock or plasterboard wall: $229
• Internal single brick wall, no cavity, $99
• New built single brick wall with wall chasing: $149
• External double brick walls with cavity, 229

What if I need a different cable on the day of installation?

We carry everything with us, and we’ll still be able to get it done on the day. If we arrive and your setup requires something different, we will have it on board. Most large TV installs require a bunch of 3 m cables: HDMI, LAN/data / TV leads, optical and
power leads. We also carry slimline HDMI and 2.1 HDMI 8 cables for the high-end TVs and equipment, so we can sort out these types of small changes on the day.

What if I’ve already bought my own wall mount kit?

Buying your own kit will often work out more expensive and is not advised, as we can’t guarantee the quality and result. If you already have one and it’s the correct one for your TV and install, then you can deduct $50 from the normal standard price.
